Snap Food Programs & Funding Cuts (2026)

Legislative page, Aashi Uppal, asks a question about federal funding cuts from the House Early Learning and Human Services Committee. Chair Bergquist and Ranking Member Eslick respond with ideas to help Washingtonians with their immediate budgetary need.

Question: Through my research, I learned that Snap-Ed, a program that teaches children how to shop, cook, and eat healthy on a budget, was recently eliminated because of federal decisions. Have there been thoughts of re-funding this program or similar assistance programs within Washington state? What are the pros and cons?
