Workforce Pathways (2026)

Senate Page, Bo Bjordahl, asks members of the Senate Higher Education and Workforce Development Committee about what needs to be done in the legislature to ensure that people who take a non-traditional path after high school are valued in the workplace. Chair T'wina Nobles, Democrat, and Ranking Member Judy Warnick, Republican, respond.

Question:
While researching enrollment rates at the Washington Achievement Council, I learned that currently there are more students enrolled in CTC’s than in 4 year colleges. As the number of adults with non-traditional college education grows, what laws will need to be passed to best ensure that both paths are equally valued in the workplace?

Comprehension Questions:

Why are some students choosing community and technical colleges?
What is the legislature doing to ensure that students have clear pathways from CTCs and the workforce?
What is the best way to ensure that both CTCs and universities are valued in Washington?
How are the legislators' ideas similar and how are they different?
What else do you think can be done to improve colleges and universities in Washington?
