Importance of Debates

Debates between candidates have become an integral part of the election cycle. While millions of people tune in for the Presidential debates, the same cannot be said for the Statewide races, despite the fact that these debates are occurring and are televised or streamed so the electorate can be more informed.

In this video, Teach with TVW talks with veteran journalist, Joyce Taylor, about her role as a moderator for the King 5 Governor's Debate. Additionally, we spoke with 11th grade journalist, Kellyanna Brooking, about how she prepared to moderate the debate for the Superintendent of Public Instruction. In these discussions, viewers learn why debates are important, what the role of the media is in a debate, and about the importance of context when watching clips of longer debates.
